Classes begin for LECOM School of Pharmacy Students

Students at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine’s School of Pharmacy took their first steps toward earning a Doctor of Pharmacy degree as classes began for students at campuses in Erie, Pa., and Bradenton, Fla.

“As Dean of the LECOM School of Pharmacy, it is a great delight to welcome 290 future pharmacists at our Erie, PA and Bradenton, FL campuses,” says Hershey S. Bell, MD, MS, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the LECOM School of the Pharmacy. “These students, who are among the best and brightest in the country, will begin studies that will enable them to practice pharmacy at the highest levels. Our curriculum, guided by our expert faculty, is designed to graduate highly-skilled clinicians who specialize in all aspects of medication management to achieve the best patient outcomes.”

LECOM’s main campus in Erie welcomes its 10th class of 147 students, while the Bradenton campus is matriculating 143 - its largest number of students in the program’s five-year history.

“This is a dream come true,” says Harrison Britt of Sarasota, Fla. “I worked very hard to get to this point and I’m happy to be here at LECOM.”

LECOM offers the accelerated three-year pharmacy program at the Erie campus, while students at the Bradenton campus are enrolled in the traditional four-year pathway toward the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.

LECOM students receive a solid background in patient-centered care and go on to get highly sought-after positions in community pharmacies, hospitals, managed care facilities, academia, and private industry.
