What You Should Know About Applying to LECOM
LECOM is a private osteopathic medical college and a school of pharmacy. Our admissions
counselors and interviewers are looking for students who will meet the academic and professional
standards that the public expects of quality health care professionals.
Successful
medical college candidates typically have both science and overall grade point averages of 3.3 or
above and a mean MCAT score of 24. Pharmacy school students should have a grade point average
of 2.7 in the required entrance requirements. LECOM has affiliation agreements with undergraduate
colleges that allow completion of the pharmacy entrance requirements in two years.
For
medical college admissions, LECOM requires a letter of recommendation from an osteopathic
physician. LECOM encourages applicants to learn more about the profession by getting to know an
osteopathic physician.
Receiving exposure to the osteopathic profession will enhance
awareness of osteopathic medical philosophy. Working with a physician or pharmacist will prepare
the applicant for the required admissions interview. For more information, see the article on
"How to find an osteopathic physician to shadow," which can be found on the navigation
menu to the right.
The college looks for candidates who exemplify the LECOM mission to
prepare students to become osteopathic physicians and pharmacists who will become partners with
their patients on the pathway to health and well-being.
LECOM has a history of
graduating primary care physicians, especially in family practice. The college imparts to its
students a firm academic, competency-based background, enabling them to pursue advanced training in
other fields of osteopathic medicine, as well as primary care. The college encourages its students
to participate in research to further advance his or her chosen profession.
